Maruni Cafe was one of our great discoveries in Kyoto. It’s a really small restaurant with a charming atmosphere on the first floor on the corner of Shin-machi Dori.
We struggled to find it and we did have to ask around but although it is difficult to find someone who speaks English, Japanese people are truly helpful and the guy we asked was kind enough to walk us over to the restaurant’s door. It’s just another example of how courtesy, and not English, is a universal language.
We found this coffee shop by chance, looking where to eat good taiyakis (fish-shaped Japanese sweets filled with chocolate and cream) on instagram and we ended up eating everything but the sweets.
The miso soup was delicious and the rest… we can’t remember what it was. You have to order your food by looking at photos or sampuru (plastic models of food found on the menu) in most places.
We’ll go back and we hope to do soon!
